In 1896, the Olmsted Brothers firm of Massachusetts was retained
to plan Chicora Park. By 1897, the park had already become
a popular place for residents. |

A major factor addressed
by the Noisette Master Plan is restoration of wild open areas
and the watershed that serves such a critically important function
to area ecology.
Noisette Creek is one example. This is the community’s
main local branch of the Cooper River’s tidal flow,
and its course has been extensively modified by industrial
and military development over the last few decades. Much
of this development will be reversed in the course of Noisette
progress.
Marsh habitats will be restored and a network of trails established
to give residents a variety of ways to enjoy the natural
beauty of the area. A small golf course built by the Navy
is gradually reverting to its natural state, and a variety
of structures on and around the creek will be deconstructed
as light-impact features like the Riverfront Park are developed.
To help assure these and other open lands and waterways a
sustainable future, they will be acquired by an organization
called the Michaux Conservancy and Land Trust.
