This wedge-shaped neighborhood is bordered by Park Circle, Filbin Creek and the GARCO industrial site. Like much of the Noisette area, its construction was spurred by the boom-times of the World War II era, and housing styles are typical of the 1940s and 50s. Main areas of Noisette redevelopment interest include plans for infill housing, GARCO (light industrial, and commercial development), and construction of the new North Charleston Elementary School, which is the State’s first LEED-certified school facility. LEED is a major new set of sustainability standards focusing on energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality and overall environmental impact. Not far away the commercial firm, Halfmoon Outfitters, has built a distribution center on Montague Avenue that earned the highest possible LEED certification.
